पन्द्रह अगस्त सन् 1947 में सैकड़ों वर्षों के गुलामी के बाद भारत एक आजाद देश के रूप में अस्तित्व में आने के बाद से ही पन्द्रह अगस्त को स्वतंत्रता दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है और विविध प्रकार से सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया जाता रहा है।


लेकिन पहली बार आजादी के 75 वर्ष पुर्ण होने पर देश के प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी के आह्वान पर 13 अगस्त से 15 अगस्त तक भारत वर्ष में हर घर पर तिरंगा झंडा लगा कर राष्ट्र के प्रति प्रेम राष्ट्रीय ध्वज के सम्मान के लिए अमृत महोत्सव मनाने का निर्णय लिया गया है।
प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के आह्वान पर 13 अगस्त से 15 अगस्त तक हर घर झंडा कार्यक्रम को सफल बनाने के लिए सम्पूर्ण सरकारी मशीनरी, समाजिक संगठन, युवा शक्ति, महिला शक्ति , व्यापारी वर्ग से लेकर देशभर का अन्य दाता किसान-मजदूरों के साथ अहम भूमिका नगरपालिका परिषद, नगर पंचायत, नगर निगम के साथ ग्राम पंचायतों की अहम भूमिका है ।

भारत में 6 लाख, 49 हज़ार 4 सौ 81 गांव है, सबसे ज्यादा गांव उत्तर प्रदेश में है, और सबसे कम गांव चंडीगढ़ में है, उत्तर प्रदेश में 1लाख 7 हज़ार 7 सौ 5 गांव है, सबसे छोटे गांवों वाले राज्य चंडीगढ़ में सिर्फ 13 गांव है भारत वर्ष में लगभग 6,49,481 गांवों में लगभग अभी तक लगभग 9387766455533898 घर हैं

भारत वर्ष का उत्तर प्रदेश गांवों और आबादी के लिहाज से सबसे बड़ा प्रदेश है उत्तर प्रदेश भी आजादी के महापर्व अमृत महोत्सव की तैयारियों में पुरी तन्मयता से लगा हुआ है उत्तर प्रदेश के जनपद महराजगंज में सभी शिक्षण-प्रशिक्षण संस्थान प्रशासनिक अधिकारियों, पुलिस बल , एन सी सी कैंडिडेट, स्टुडेंट एस एस बी, होमगार्ड के जवान आदि पिछले कई दिनों से जनमानस में जागरूकता पैदा करने के लिए रैलियों का आयोजन कर जन जाग्रति कर रहे हैं जिलाधिकारी महराजगंज के निर्देश में निचलौल तहसील के एस डी एम सत्य प्रकाश मिश्र की अगुवाई में सीओ निचलौल तथा संमवंधित थाने के थानाध्यक्षो के उपस्थित थे अमृत महोत्सव को सफल बनाने हेतु विभिन्न स्थानों पर जन जागरण कार्यक्रम चल रहा है।
